The Rowan County Extension Master Gardener Program provides excellent training by Professionals, Master Gardeners, and Extension Staff. Learn through lectures, discussion, field trips, textbooks, and hands-on opportunities.
Topics include: Soils, Lawns, Botany, Small Fruits, Insects, Native Plants, Vegetables, Plant Propagation, Tree Fruits, Weeds, Landscape Design, Herbaceous Plants.
The Rowan County Master Gardener Training is held every other year, and students are certified upon meeting the annual education and volunteer hour requirements. To maintain Master Gardener certification, education hours and service to the community hours are required annually.
Education topics are offered monthly by the Rowan County Master Gardeners, and webinars are available through the NC State Extension Master Gardener program.
Volunteer hours are earned many ways: working in the Extension gardens or greenhouse, volunteering for the annual plant sale, writing newsletters, planning day trips, and providing hands-on aid or answers to home gardening questions, speaking to civic organizations, schools, working on community beautification projects, or other community gardening programs.
The Extension Master GardenerSM Association of Rowan County educates those with an interest and enthusiasm for horticulture, providing basic training in a broad range of horticultural topics. Our members provide assistance to community gardens and gardening programs, teaching community residents horticultural best practices based on research and recommendations.
